Contestants make visits to 6 primary schools
by National Queens Pageant Committee, Jul 24th, 2008
This year, the committee is committed to getting the contestants active in the community by reaching out to the younger generation through a visit to each of the island’s primary schools. Each contestant was given the opportunity to visit a primary school on the island and share information with the children on some of the issues affecting the community of Anguilla. The contestants enjoyed visits to Island Harbour Primary School, Alwyn Allison School in West End, Stoney Ground Primary, Valley Primary, Morris Vanterpool Primary School in East End and Road Primary School. The visits were organized by the committee and facilitated by Principals to take place during the weekly assembly times. The contestants addressed the students on subjects including pollution and how to keep Anguilla clean and beautiful, juvenile delinquency, and encouraged the students to steer clear of gang violence and criminal activities, which is slowly becoming a growing epidemic on the island. The visits were made interactive allowing the students to ask questions. Principals and teachers were thrilled to have the contestants visit and speak to the students. The students were excited to recognize some of the familiar faces from their community.
