VIVA VERDE

by National Queens Pageant Committee, Jul 15th, 2008

You saw the ladies make their first public appearance on July 5th at “Viva Verde” which was held at The Frangipani Beach Resort in Meads Bay.  While showcasing Frangipani’s new impressive infinity pool, the event was centered on a green theme, which gave the ladies the opportunity to express their concerns and views on how we can help to protect our environment.  At a time when the impact and effect on the environment are often overlooked globally, Contestant # 1, Curlee Gumbs brings it home to Anguilla expressing her concern when it comes to the practice of sand mining.  Curlee is fearful that it will cause tourism, our main economic source, to dissipate.  Contestant # 2, Cassandra Webster, urges us to practice measures to help safeguard our coastlines. Csandre Wattley, Miss Frangipani Beach Resort, calls upon the Government, society and the church leaders to implement strong legislations and administrative actions to clean up air pollution.  Fanny Richardson, contestant # 4 and Kericia Barry, contestant #5 both expressed their concerns on the issue of disposing waste at Corito versus creating viable alternatives.  Kendisha Hall, contestant # 6 closes by inviting everyone to be eco-friendly and take absolute care of the environment.

As a result of strenuous physical training, the ladies looked impeccable in their ‘Live Green’ gowns for the evening and in their fashion show appearances modeling apparels from Boudoir and Panache Couture.  The ladies are also closely guided and trained for oral presentations by Ms. Rita Carty.  We sincerely express thanks to Ms. Carty for welcoming and assisting the ladies in their preparations.
