CCB Talented Teen Contestants Participate in Series of Educational Activities

by Cherecia Lewis, Jul 25th, 2007

July 17th, 2007 - The CCB Talented Teen contestants participated in a Diet and Exercise Session. The session was hosted by Ms. Marissa Rey, who holds a career diploma in Fitness and Nutrition. It was held primarily to educate the contestants on the best nutritional practices and to stress the importance of a healthy diet and exercise.

Some of the topics covered in the session were dietary guidelines based on the food pyramid, how to read food labels to determine a product’s nutritional value, tips for effective exercise as well as the benefits of exercise. They were also educated on the illnesses, such as Type 2 Diabetes and Heart disease, which can arise as a result of poor nutrition and lack of exercise.

As part of the session, contestants were later given a tour of the Dungeon Gym & Fitness Centre to see the alternative ways of improving their health through cardiovascular and anaerobic exercises.

The contestants’ enthusiasm was evident by their stream of questions which followed the presentation. Many of them confirmed that they were unaware of many of the issues which had been addressed in session, and they were certain that the session would help to raise their level of health consciousness.

July 19th, 2007 - Contestants took part in a Modeling Session facilitated by Mrs. Paulita Gumbs-Bryson former winner of the Talented Teen Pageant.

The session served to prepare the contestants for the Evening Wear Presentation segment of the show and to boost their self-confidence making them more comfortable with the stage in general.

Mrs. Bryson impressed upon the contestants the necessity of good posture, sophistication, and elegance when modeling on stage.

July 21st, 2007 - A combination of fun and learning, the contestants engaged in an Impromptu Question and Answer Session, answering a total of 81 questions among the group of nine while enjoying pizza at Un Amore Cafe. Questions were formulated by the contestants themselves and systematically answered. A few basic rules had to be followed: contestants had to answer all the questions posed to them and the questions had to be professionally answered with use of proper grammar, diction, and articulation.

Contestants were asked to take note of questions they found difficult to answer and do their research to be better prepared to answer the same or similar questions. The reason for the exercise was to prepare contestants for the Onstage Interview segment on the night of the show, Tuesday, August 7th.
